This Month at The Dragon Café – Sounds, Songs & Stories
Experiences and Celebrations of William Blake – This Monday from 12 – 8.30 pm at The Dragon Café.
Next week is the birthday of South London artist, poet and visionary William Blake who is one of our charity’s creative muses, and indeed added the Mental Fight (from poem Jerusalem) into the name. To mark this we welcome Stephen Micalef, poet, and Armorel Weston, singer and musician, but also Dr James Fox with his talk William Blake and Nature Spirituality: A Personal Response. In his words: ‘James Fox will describe some of his own experiences which led him to discover the mystical philosophy at the heart of William Blake’s work. His response to this is to develop a programme of practice and study (a work in progress) that is aimed at awakening a pantheistic nature spirituality, which is also discernible in Blake’s mysticism. Such an awakening would transform our conception of ourselves in relation to the world and overcome the disconnect that modernity has with the natural environment and which comes at great psychological, social and environmental cost.’
You are also invited to celebrate on Blake’s Birthday (28th November) with the Blake Society.
This Monday before our evening event, we have a day full of creative activity including Wreath Making in the ArtSpace as part of an awareness and fundraising campaign in support of the Café called ‘Opening Doors, Opening Minds’. The more the merrier, so we hope you can help us in making wreaths to be displayed by local businesses this Christmas.
