This Month at The Dragon Café – Celebrating Black History & Culture

Portraits of the Windrush Generation, this Monday from 12 – 8.30 pm at The Dragon Café.
This October we will be connecting with Black History Month and having our own celebration. We will have an evolving exhibition coming together throughout the month, and you can join Li in the ArtSpace for a portrait project celebrating prominent African Caribbean figures.

For our first evening event we will be joined by filmmaker Helena Appio who made a series of short films called The Windrush Years, capturing the experiences of people who came from the Caribbean to the UK between 1948 and 1971. Alongside a selection of these, we present A Portrait of Mr Pink which has gained a huge following online after being rediscovered this year. Mr Pink is an endearing character who transformed his house in South London into a eye-catching colourful local landmark, but in person a gentle warmth and humility resonates.
